Every winter for years, I tried to find the perfect solution for all our winter hats, scarves, mittens, gloves, and earmuffs. I tried baskets, a hamper by the door, a bag for each person in the closet, even a 5 drawer caddy and still, all winter long we would be searching for the mate to a mitten, or digging through the huge hamper for that other glove or a favorite hat. And finally, last year, I struck upon a solution that works for our family and space! And I want to share it with you, because it has simplified this one area of my life! And I'm all about finding solutions to make home-life less stressful. You really don't need extra stress, so why not figure out ways to solve simple problems effectively so you can concentrate on more important things, like making those holiday gifts or cookies for school.
What solved our mitten/glove dilemma once and for all was a Clear Shoe Organizer that I found at Walmart for about $12. It's the kind that has hooks that fit over a door. It's much like this one sold on Amazon, but you can find them at almost any store that sells housewares…Target, KMart, Shopko, Ace Hardware, etc.. I always encourage local shopping if you have the stores near you!
I hung this shoe organizer on the inside of our coat closet on the main floor and it's great for keeping gloves and mittens together. No more hunting all over the house every time one of the boys wants to run out and play in the snow! No more searching for my driving gloves when I need to run errands! It's wonderful! And it's a pretty inexpensive, easy solution to the problem of missing winter gear!
I'm not one to toot my own horn, but clearly this is brilliant! And my best friend will confirm that for me, because she's just that kind of friend!

(No fair if you solved it by moving to a warm mitten free zip code! I don't want to know that on this chilly -2 degree day!)
